In honor of Halloween, The Beer Goddess found and purchased a bottle of Coney Island Freaktoberfest by Shmaltz brewing. She was intrigued by the label, and I was intrigued because I had never tasted it before. Last night we opened the bottle and got our Freak(toberfest) on….
Shmaltz Brewing calls this a blood red lager and it comes in at %6.6 abv.
The first thing we noticed as we poured it was the color. Red. The color actually reminded me of a Lindeman’s Framboise. Due to the color I was thinking it may have a sweet taste, but it did not. Definitely a lager beer. Not a bad beer at all. It is not going on my list of favorite beers to drink, but its definitely worth a try.
I love the artwork for the beer label on this one. In fact all of the Coney Island Lagers have some great beer labels. While the beer may not go on my list of favorites, the artwork is right up there near the top.
