I happen to live within the city limits of a small city where it is illegal to sell beer and wine on Sundays. It is not that big of deal as I can drive 10 minutes up the road to another store where I can buy beer. I usually try and plan it so I don’t run out of beer on Sundays, but sometimes emergencies do happen, so I just drive the extra 10 minutes. Anyway, this past Sunday I was in the local Publix grocery store and as I walked past the beer aisle, I noticed the usual Sunday signs indicating they could not sell beer on Sunday. And then I saw the non-alcoholic beer section. With the same ‘No Beer on Sunday’ sign. Hmm, I wondered, (I wonder a lot) that sign can’t be right. I should be able to buy non-alcoholic beer on Sunday. Now before all of my beer friends start freaking out, I was not really planning on buying the non- alcoholic stuff, I was just wondering (see, I told you I wonder a lot). My idea was to grab a six pack of the non-alcoholic beer and attempt to buy it. I have a feeling that I would have been rejected by the cashier. But then I thought, geez, what if the cashier let me buy it ? Then what would I do ? I mean what does a beer lover do with a six pack of non-alcoholic beer? So in the end I decided not to test my theory. As I left the store I saw a donation bin to give canned items to the needy. I wondered (again!) if they would accept the cans of non-alcoholic beer? They probably wouldn’t be thrilled.
As I drove back home I saw a billboard which warned about driving under the influence or with an open container…hmmmm…would an open can of non-alcoholic beer get me arrested? I wonder…..
