So lets say that you are a member of an organization which owns a share of a brewery. You  enjoy the beer from the brewery but you are so tired of having to lug around all of  those beer cans and bottles. What do you do? Well if you are a student at a university in Sweden, you attend the annual shareholders meeting and request a beer pipeline to be built from the brewery to the campus. Since the student union purchased a share of the brewery (literally ‘a’ share) you are entitled to a seat at the shareholders meeting. And if your arguments are good, the brewery starts building the pipeline to cover the 100 kilometers between the brewery and the university.

Zoom forward fifty one years. The brewery is now part of the Carlsberg empire. The construction of the pipeline has not progressed as fast as the students wanted. In fact, the completed section of the pipeline is roughly two meters long. So the students organize a  protest at the brewery.  After several hours of negotiation, the students and the brewery reach an agreement. The brewery agrees to begin working on the pipeline again.

“We’ve listened and accepted their demand. We’ll soon start construction on one meter of pipeline,” Carlsberg spokesperson Göran Orre told the press a smile.

Hmm, if I bought a share of The Boston Beer Company, I wonder…..
