Karibrew Brewpub Mini Review

Karibrew Brewpub

Several weeks ago The Beer Goddess and I spent a great weekend at Amelia Island, FL.  For those unfamiliar with Florida, Amelia Island is pretty much the furthest northeast you can go in Florida and not be in Georgia.  We were supposed to go with another couple but they had to back out at the last minute due to illness. Unlike a lot of our trips, I had done NO  research before we arrived so imagine my delightful surprise when  I saw an ad for  Cafe Karibo / Karibrew Brewpub in a local magazine. The weekend was looking even better!

The afternoon was a sunny hot day so the shady garden area looked very inviting. We didn’t see a sign for the Karibrew, only the Karibo Cafe, so we poked our head inside the building first  and made sure we were at the place that made beer. They assured us we were and we decided to sit outside since it was actually cooler outside.

They had 4 of their beers available that day:

Red Rocket Red Ale
Downtown Nut Brown
Karibrew American Pilsner
Sloppy Skips Stout

I ordered the Downtown Nut Brown, while The Beer Goddess got  the Red Rocket Red Ale. I was surprised at the hoppyness of the Downtown Nut Brown.  Actually both of the beers were high on the hop side which was fine for us.  We both rated them as “OK”.  Would definitely drink them again, but wouldn’t go too far out of the way for one either.

We had eaten lunch earlier (yes, we literally were only there for the beer) so didn’t get a chance to try the food, but from the plates coming out to other customers, it looked pretty darn tasty.

The outside eating area of the Cafe is the high point. A wandering path winds through the oak shaded areas revealing all kind of little seating areas. I can imagine being out there on a fall or spring day and enjoying the fresh beer……oh, and we enjoyed the friendly cats as well!

Cafe Karibo / Karibrew Brewpub  is in the town of   Fernandina Beach, which is on the northern tip of Amelia Island. You can checkout the Cafe Karibo site here.
