Time for the second of my seasonal romp through Oktoberfest beers. This one was tasted at a recent Cigar City Brewing ‘tap take over’ at World of Beer in Lake Mary FL. World of Beer brought in 17 different Cigar City Beers for one night. One of the new ones for me was the Cigar City Oktoberfest. I can’t findĀ much information about this beer as it isn’t available in bottle anywhere and I believe it is a brand new beer for Cigar City. Here is the description from the menu (which I’m assuming Cigar City provided the details for) : Cigar City Oktoberfest , 5% (abv). “This Oktoberfest smells of semi sweet malts, floral hops and crisp grains with a clean taste and perfect malt hop balance”
I found this Oktoberfest beer to be less malty (and conversely more hoppy) than other Oktoberfest / Marzen style beers. But it was still nicely balanced with neither the hop or the malt overpowering the other. It also seemed to be more than 5% abv. As the beer warmed up a bit, I also detected some slight smokiness/woodsy taste which is a feature of some other Cigar City Beers. All in all a damn fine beer.
No pictures of the beer, or label, but check out the bottom of the post for a picture of the menu for the evening. We did end up having a couple of other Cigar City Beers but will write about those later. I really wanted to try the “Big Dummy” but the tap was acting up. If I see the Big Dummy (aka The Fred Sanford Beer) again I’m getting it. I just hope the waitress name is Elizabeth. As she sets the glass of Big Dummy down on the table I can say ” Elizabeth..Elizabeth .. its the big one” …OK, I admit it. I was a fan of the Sanford and Son television show.
